Payment not working in China

Start with the exact error and the stage that failed: account verification, card linking, issuer approval, network, merchant flow, or a completed transaction that has not settled as expected. Change one thing at a time, keep the receipt or transaction record, and switch to an independent fallback when the cause cannot be resolved safely.

Quick answer

Do not keep retrying blindly. Read the exact message, identify whether verification, card linking, the issuer, connectivity, the merchant's payment flow, or a completed transaction is the problem, and change one thing at a time. If the cause stays unclear, use a separate wallet, physical card, RMB cash, or a staffed payment setting.

What you seeCheck nextFallback
Account or identity verification is incompleteFollow the current official in-app prompt; check that the submitted details match the required documentUse another prepared method while official support reviews the account
The international card will not linkCheck the name and card details, the issuer's approval, the verification code and the current app messageContact the issuer or official wallet support; do not repeatedly resubmit sensitive details
The card is linked but payment is declinedRead the decline message; check connection, merchant flow, issuer controls and any visible limitUse another wallet, a physical card where accepted, or RMB cash
The merchant QR flow does not workAsk whether you should scan the merchant's code or show your payment code; follow the merchant's supported flowMove to a staffed checkout or another accepted method
The network drops during paymentRestore a reliable connection and verify the transaction status before trying againUse cash or a physical card if the merchant supports it
All mobile methods failStop repeated attempts and preserve the visible error or transaction recordUse RMB cash, a physical card, or a staffed merchant that can explain the accepted method

In short: The error message and failure stage matter more than the app logo. Keep any transaction record and avoid changing several variables at once.

Recover in this order

1. Confirm whether money moved

Check the wallet transaction list, merchant receipt and card record before attempting the same payment again.

2. Capture the exact non-sensitive message

Note the wording and time, but do not share card numbers, identity documents, verification codes or account credentials.

3. Separate connection, merchant and issuer causes

Confirm the network, ask which payment flow the merchant accepts, and check whether the issuer blocked or declined the transaction.

4. Use the responsible support channel

Use the official wallet support path for account or app issues, and the issuer for card authorization or card-record issues.

5. Switch to an independent fallback

A second wallet on the same phone may still share a network problem. A physical card, RMB cash or staffed checkout can provide a more independent path.

A refund is not visible yet

Confirm whether the merchant initiated a refund, keep the merchant receipt and transaction record, and check the status with the wallet or issuer responsible for that payment. ChinaReady does not state a fixed refund time because timing varies by provider, issuer, merchant and transaction.

Common mistakes

Payment-failure FAQ

Why did payment fail after my card linked successfully?

Linking and merchant payment are separate stages. The issuer, merchant flow, network, visible limit or account review can still affect a transaction.

Should I keep trying the same payment?

First check whether money moved and read the exact message. Repeating without checking can create confusion or duplicate attempts.

What if the merchant QR code does not work?

Ask whether the merchant expects you to scan its QR code or show your own payment code. If the supported flow still fails, use another accepted method.

How long will a refund take?

There is no single reliable time. Keep the receipt and transaction record and check the current status with the merchant, wallet and issuer involved.

What is the safest fallback if both wallets fail?

Use an independent option: a physical card where accepted, RMB cash, or a staffed merchant that can explain the available payment method.
